The Healing of Leprosy

Leper on the Road to Capernaum

Matthew 8:1-4When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

The Healing of Ten Lepers

Luke 17:11-19
11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Understand the Gravity of the Situation

Leprosy is a term that has gone out of vogue, but it does still exist under the name Hanson's disease. Much more is known about Leprosy/Hanson's now. For one thing it is not nearly as comunicable as once thought. Which would explain why we've all heard of it, but we don't really understand what it is.

Leprosy/Hansons is chronic, curable infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae bacteria that primarily affects the skin, peripheral nerves, and mucous membranes. It causes skin lesions, numbness, and muscle weakness, often spreading through prolonged respiratory droplet contact.

Now that you know what it is, and understanding that none of this was known at the time can you possibly imagine how you might react if the touch of Jesus relieved you from that pain?
